Error message displaying at the bottom of all pages

Post by johnnymac »

Warning: Unknown(): open(C:\PHP\sessiondata\sess_4506bb45a3a4413a68ac430147ae087d, O_RDWR) failed: Permission denied (13) in Unknown on line 0

Warning: Unknown(): Failed to write session data (files). Please verify that the current setting of session.save_path is correct (C:\PHP\sessiondata) in Unknown on line 0
These lines are included on all of the pages. A bit of background. This install is brand new and done by my hosting provider aplus.net. They use a SQLite database on a windows machine. I attempted to install this myself, but they (aplus.net) have way to many security measures in place and restrictions on which/how files I can modify. Being the lazy person I am I simply modified one of the css files to include an a black background with black text. Problem solved I thought, but I am now noticing problems with entering in text for the blog. Any Ideas?

Thanks - Johnny

oh and
http://www.abusethe.net/cgi-bin/cblog/
that might be helpful lol.. just highlight the "Invisible" text at the very bottom of the page.

---Edit :: Problems with entering text means that I enter it via AdminSuite/NewEntry and nothing posts.

Ok.. Back to business.. I have searched high and low for an answer and the common idea is that:

a.
RandomGoogleSearch2 wrote:well, for the record. It wasn't a DNS problem. The tmp directory that the session variables were being written too has problems on my new server. I'm not sure what the problems are, but I set a new path for the tmp directory in my .htaccess file and now it works.
b.
RandomGoogleSearch7 wrote:They need to change the session_save.path directive in php.ini to a directory that actually exists, and give the apache user read/write permissions to it.

sy9.org/forums wrote: (Dated Feb 2005 - Yeah I went back far)Did some investigation on BlueDomino and found that they require adding two lines to the top of any programs that use PHP sessions:

//Added these two lines:
session_save_path("/home/users/web/b10/blu.detnyre/cgi-bin/tmp");
session_start();

Please take into consideration that my Host (a+.net) has so graciously installed this for me. I now have to find a way to explain to them that they screwed up and they need to fix something because they won't give me access to the right stuff.

I have no clue what to tell them to fix.. And only a general idea of what is wrong.. Why does Serendipity have to be so cool! {Flings himself on ground}And I want it now{Bangs fists and feet}.

Thanks - Johnny

Hi!

Just tell them this:
Hi Support!

I want to use a PHP application that depends on PHP sessions.
The way you configured PHP on my server does not allow write and read access to the "C:\PHP\sessiondata" directory.

To properly make me able to use a lot of PHP applications, please configure the webserver in a way that allows to utilize PHP sessions, by granting write privileges to the directory mentioned above, or by changing the php.ini variable for session.save_path to a usable directory.

Thanks,
Johnny

They had the audacity to send me a message saying they had resolved the errors I was having. So I called tech support.. Its not really tech support.. Just an overrated secretary that I talked to. Any time i said a keyword like .htaccess or php he would bang away at his keyboard and give me some predetermined message basically saying "No, I'm right - you're wrong."

w/e I'm going to continue hounding them while I attempt to locate another service which will give me everything that I need.
A quick list..

What ever is needed for Serendipity - MySQL, access to read write settings, and w/e is needed for php!

Fast uploads and downloads.. The true benefit to aplus.net.. I could hit 6-7mB down and 400-500kb up..

High bandwidth and storage

Cheap (although I'm paying 19.99 right now because a+.net and myself are being noobs)

Soo.. Anyone have a brillant idea? Who hosts s9y.org? Ok im going to the whois database!

Thanks for the help guys..

Hi Johnny

I use - and can recommend Servage hosting.

250 GB Web Space (250000 MB)
2100 GB Transfer
Unlimited FTP Accounts
FTP Access
1000 MySQL Databases (v4 & v5)
FTPS (Encrypted FTP)
PHP v4.4.1 & PHP v5.1.4
GD Support
etc. etc.

and a free domain name when you sign up. If you sign up from the link above I'll get an extra 25GB of web space added to my account - and so will you! - (275 GB total for you)

Cost is only £5.25 per month!

Hi!

Hm, sounds like a really strange support there. :(

The PHP error message is pretty revealing, so they should really be able to solve that. :(

Sadly I'm based in Germany, so I only know about german providers...

Best regards,
Garvin

Better to have too much than too little :)
I host some client sites there - and have lots of space to use for myself as you can host multi-domains :D

I noticed the accent er i mean.. Thanks for all your help garvin. I am waiting on the latest support ticket to be resolved. We will see if they can get it right. I've also included an interesting screen shot for you.

If you look at the highlighted text you will see that you are associated with a+.net..

DC - Thanks for the recommendation. I am going to attempt to test the d/l upload speeds. If they are good then I will transfer my domain tonight (using your link of course)!
