update 1.0.1 --> 1.1-beta1

Post by chrisT33 »

ok... i tried updating from 1.0.1 to 1.1-beta1, but no luck...

i deleted from my server ALL files except:

directories: templates, templates_c, uploads
files: serendipity_config.inc.php, .htaccess

when i went on my first page it was all the same, no update link or something... i went on my admin panel, i saw on the front pages some links to s9y stuffs, but in the bottom of the page is still written: Powered by Serendipity 1.0.1 and PHP 5.1.6

i know that i've done something wrong, but WHAT ? :(

thanks

You should overwrite your serendipity_config.inc.php, because otherwise Serendipity won't know to upgrade. :)

this is not your config file, your real config file (you should NOT delete) is serendipity_config_local.inc.php

Same problem

Post by dani0100 »

Hi -

I actually am having the same problem trying to upgrade from 1.0-Alpha1. I did copy and overwrote every file from the latest beta version to my current folder. However, nothing seems to have been updated and my admin interface still says 1.0-Alpha1.

Any thoughts??

Thanks!

Perhaps we missed a file. Did the serendipity_config.inc.php get overwritten? That's where Serendipity keeps its version number. If it didn't get rewritten, it won't know to actually perform the upgrade.

OK, I found the problem -- I'm a dummy. It turns out I had copied over the files from an untouched install of the old version I had lying around, rather than the new files I just unzipped from the beta version.

Human error strikes again!

Thanks for the help, and for all you do for the community.

I did the same thing.
Except I intentionally renamed serendipity_config.inc.php as serendipity_config.inc.php_original thinking I needed to protect mine from being overwritten. Doh!
