Category listings

I have created a couple categories but when I post an entry to the category, it gets posted to both the category and the main page.

How do I prevent that?

You can use the plugin Start Page Category to hide categories from the main page.

Otherwise, the front page is like a summary -- it shows all the most recent entries. If you don't want to hide entries, you could try setting the "Entries to display on frontpage" under admin -> Configuration -> Appearance and Options to 0.

If that causes problems (and it might), set it to 1, then install the "Extended Properties of Entries" plugin and make any entry sticky. It'll then be the only one displayed on the frontpage.

There is one other option, too: install the "Static Pages" plugin, make a static page, and mark it as the front page.
