impossible but who else can i ask..... :(

Post by hudloom »

Hi,

i´m using this great software for about several months and its absolut great.

Please read what has happend:
Everything worked flawlessly since installation, then i´ve decided to make my blog private so i´ve uploaded .htaccess and .htpasswd by ftp. This also worked out but then i encountered Problems: no more admin login possible, no browsing in the calendar, Articles are not more readable in full etc. always 404s

So I deleted the .ht files but the Problems stayed. But then I found the Problem: The Folder Archive was completly empty, also the folder categories has disappeared.... I am absolutly devastated :( All my content is gone but how can this happen?

I´ve gone through my logs, files which were available before are gone after the .htaccess action but there can´t be a relation.
No way i´ve accidently deleted the files in addition only the essential ones...

Please reply for ideas, solutions or letter of sympathy :)

*Update* I´ve just read this in the Installation Manual

----
Installation Issues

Help! I am getting 404 errors every time I try and view articles, use the $su- link, or view archives, but the main page and RSS feeds work. What is going on?

Chances are your apache configuration isn't playing nice with the .htaccess. The easiest way to deal with that is to make sure that "AllowOverRide All" is set in the apache directory configuration (in your httpd.conf). If you don't have access to your httpd.conf, you can try not using rewrite rules, and use ErrorDocuments instead.

----

Thats exactly my Problem but how comes that after deleting .htaccess the Problem still occurs?

The problem is you killed your .htaccess file.

Vital information is in that file, you can't just overwrite it. Go to your serendipity configuration (that should still work) and set "URL Rewriting" to "NONE". Save your config, and Serendipity will recreate the right .htaccess file.

Then you can switch back to Rewrite: "Apache ErrorHandling" and you'll get back your pretty URLs.
