Very strangely, the "à" character is not displayed correctly in my comments although all other French accentued characters are correct. Instead, "? " is displayed.

Hi!

Did you use the WYSIWYG editor to insert text? Did you insert it via copy+paste?

Special characters might not get properly translated if you put them via Copy+Paste. Which browser were you using to insert the text? Try firefox.
