weird count of comments bug?

Hello,

From time to time I get weird count of comments at articles. For example I post an article, people start posting comments to it. They post one, two three, four etc. The count of the comments is right up to a point. After a while even though I have lets say 30 comments to that article, it shows me 454534523 comments or a random number from 42434323 to 453442443 (numbers are approximate, but you get the idea). So i cant have 40 milions comments for that article, something screws up. And I need to manually edit the db entry (using phpmyadmin) back to the normal count (by counting the number of comments by hand).

Any idea whats going wrong? Thank you very much

This was a known bug of serendipity 0.8 or 0.9 versions. Which version are you using?

Hm, okay, you seem to be using the right version. Do you happen to know a way to reproduce your bug? Is it maybe related to if you moderate or delete comments or trackbacks?

hi, it's me again... same bugs.. same old story. it appears random. might appear only posting new article, or when deleting comments.

There must be a way to reproduce this. Could you try to reproduce it? Like by "First you need to publish an entry, then make a comment, then moderate that comment, then delete the moderated comment and then the comment count gets below '0'". WIthout that it's hard for me to tell, because I can't find an obvious bug.

Do you use comment moderation? Do you remember if you used the comment moderation admin panel to delete/moderate comments for the entry where the count is off?

Well, I will try to reproduce this, but I'm not the owner of the server. As I have been told, thats what he did: posted a new article late night. Comments are moderated. Next morning he went into admin section to see what comments have been posted during night. I assume he deleted a few, because people say bad things. There wasnt any comment left to approve though. I would say 70% for sure, the wrong comment count would appear when he uses the admin panel to approve the comments.Every article has moderated comments.
