Not writeable during install with 777 permissions

Hi, I'm new to serendipity but not to LAMP.

I'm using FC5, (httpd-2.2.2-1.2, php-5.1.4-1).
I have unpacked everything to the subdirectory serendipity.

I still get the "not writable" (or in german: Nicht beschreibbar) error even everything is with 777 writeable

on a system with FC4 (httpd-2.0.54-10.4, php-5.0.4-10.5) it installes every thing ok.

Is this a problem of apache 2.2 or php 5.1 or of serendipity?

Hi!

You should check the "." directory where you put Serendipity into. If s9y complains about a write error, the process defeinitely has no permissions to create a file in your serendipity directory.

it's set to 777 (also tried 1777)
httpd runs under apache so I tried owner.group apache.apache, I tried root.root, nobody.nobody, user.user... didn't help.
the exact same directory (tar cvf ... tar xvf ) on the other system runs well.

That sounds weird. Is your other apache maybe running as chroot or with different permissions?

It must be a system issue, unrelated to Serendipity...

yes it's weird, b.c. both configurations on both system are the same. (httpd.conf/php.ini) the only difference is httpd 2.2/php.5.1 - httpd 2.0/php.5.0


only difference: register_globals

What is the exact permission error you get?

Show me a "la -la" output of all involved directores and files mentioned in the error message (usually templates_c or .htaccess)

Ok I installed a second system with FC5 etc.

result= it works...

I don't know why it's not working on the first server, when I find it out, I will post it here.
