Is there a s9y wiki out there?

Post by hgoor »

Hi,

I was wondering if there is a Serendipity Wiki out there containing all the knowlegde, tips & trics?

If not: does anyone care setting one up with me on my server?

(ps: I'm crossposting this also in the installation/general discussion forum)

Yup: but that doesn't have the look & feel of a "real" wiki :-)

Why? It is a real wiki. :-)

To be honest: I'm just used to the look & feel of Wikipedia and such :-)

Also: with a real Wiki everyone can just contribute... And I can not just add an article on the official s9y site as I can with Wikipedia (or my Wiki)...

That is just the whole idea behind a wiki... Without the public edit option it's just one big FAQ...

Ah. Wikipedia for our plans really sucks. It's too hard to create a good structure in the blog, a navigation is not really possible. That was the main reason we went with coWiki, as it's more into a CMS direction which we needed.
Also: with a real Wiki everyone can just contribute... And I can not just add an article on the official s9y site as I can with Wikipedia (or my Wiki)...
That was possible. But then came SPAM. And we were forced to only give accounts to people who honestly contribute.

Leaving the wiki open introduced about 10 fake entries daily, and I had no time to moderate the wiki with fakes. On wikipedia there are many more volunteers getting rid of that. If we find someone who wants to dedicate 1-2 hours a day for moderating the wiki, I'd happily re-open anonymous contributions.

Garvin

I fully understand.

However: mediawiki and the like feature plugins and such that can reduce (automated) spam (using captchas, blacklists etc.). Off course this will not reduce spam completely, but since manual spam is not really worthwhile I think these measures will reduce time spent on deleting entries.

I installed MediaWiki, but at http://www.wikimatrix.org you can compare all wiki's...

Anyhow: it just seemed like a nice idea to have all information and contributions in a Wiki :-)

Hi!

That's true, however mediawiki really lacks in the ease of use for our goals; and we cannot seamlessly migrate the tools we have now (Who's using listing and user managements) to a different wiki - and we could not so easily put our style on a mediawiki site.
