Problems with andreas08 and comment form

Post by dougburns »

I've implemented andreas08 with a couple of minor tweaks to the width to integrate it with the rest of my website but the comments form doesn't appear, or am I missing something?

http://oracledoug.com/serendipity/index ... l#comments

Many thanks for any help or suggestions.

Regards,

Doug

Default template

I've also re-downloaded the original template, which seems to have the same missing comment form.

RSS problems too.

Nah, I give up for now.

That template was causing problems with my RSS feed too, so it's going to be an unintegrated blog at the moment :-(

Doug I was quite concerned when I read you were having troubles with andreas08, its actually the most popular template I've ported to Serendipity and seems to work reasonably well for most people. In your blog entry you link to the OSWD site for the template, and I'm wondering where you downloaded andreas08 from. Did you get it from Spartacus, from my site, or did you use the original html version from OSWD. Could you let us know so we can identify which version is causing problems

I downloaded it from the s9y website ...

.... but not using Spartacus.

I just transferred the zip file and unzipped it. If you let me know another location I should use, I'd appreciate it.

I've switched the (unmodified) template back on for the website temporarily, so that you can see what I mean.

Thanks for taking the time to help me out. The template is lovely, which is why I really want to use it.

New version being used

Post by dougburns »

Carl,

I downloaded the template from your website, unmodified and that's what the blog is using just now.

The real problem is the comment submission form.

Thanks,

Doug, would you be able to try downloading from spartacus

Looking at the source for your site it seems like your template is actually showing the andreas08 design but the source includes the default template's mainpane with the associated table. Something is very definately wrong, and I'm at a loss to understand how the andreas08 template could be doing this.

That's the Spartacus version

Post by dougburns »

I downloaded the version from Spartacus, using the link you gave me, unzipped it, cleared out the existing directory and re-uploaded it to my server, but it looks the same.

I hope this isn't some stupid mistake on my part :-(

I cut and pasted that from the admin page - is that okay?

yeah, thanks. I had thought you might have been using 1.1, and there seems to be a few people complaining about it in the installation screen, never mind, we need to get to hte bottom of this so that you can use Serendipity.

So, does the comment form work correctly in all other templates, is it just andreas08 that isn't working?

Hmm, taking a closer look at your site, could you check the paths in the the config screen and make sure nothing silly has crept in?

To answer the easier question first, I haven't had any problems with the comment form on other templates and that's how I've got by in the short time I've been using andreas08, just switching to another template. I'll switch to another default just now so you can take a look.

In the meantime, I'll check the config.

I still wouldn't be surprised if it was something I've done, because it's such a glaring problem that others would have hit it, but I'm damned if I know what.

Now *that's* interesting ...

I do have some templates that work (modifications of your v3 default thing) but other templates that used to work are now not working, in a variety of ways.

So it's obviously not your template, but I can't work out why some templates will work and some won't (and in a variety of ways).

Frustrating :-(

I can't see anything obviously strange in the config.

I wonder if a reinstallation might be a good idea?
