Destroyed path to Admin Screen :(

Post by Capt Mike »

Sorry to be a bother yet again...I searched the site and could not find then answer, but found answers to many other questions, so that was cool.

My Problem ( cannot open Admin Screen)
Admin screen / Configuration/paths/Relative path

When you open the configureation link from the admin panel
Then it asks for paths for you blog,

I changed the relitive path from /~thacthmo/
to /

This was a very bad idea...now I cannot return to the Admin screen.

so Admin/ Configuration/path/Relative path

How do I fix this? Sorry for messing things up...

Hi!

You should always be able to go to your admin screen by entering http://yoururl/yourpath/serendipity_admin.php.

There you can fix the paths anytime, actually.

Hi!

Yes, as I mentioned you have to change the paths in your configuration section :)

Hi Gavin,

I have repaired the paths in the Configureation area, but the css and some of the links are broken.

At this point, I have to give up and reinstall the whole thing again it will be quicker. I have struggled with it for three days now.

Do I have to destory the database too, to reinstall or just delete files and reupload them.

Here is what the site looks like now,

thanks...

Hi,

A couple of things I noticed when I checked your site by looking at it:

First: your paths are still wrong

In the admin config (you can still get there using http://www.stmarymagdalenechurch.org/se ... erendipity) you can set this right.

I also noticed that you still run 1.0-beta3 while 1.0 final has been out some time, I have no idea if there are any issues there, but the solution should be straight forward: just put all the 1.0 final files in the right place, and do an upgrade to 1.0 and then set all paths right!

Once the paths are back to normal again it should fix your problem!
Just set the relative path back to what it was!

NOTE: actually you should set your path right first and then I recommend updating to 1.0 final :-)

Hi,

Thanks for your help, however, when I go to the configure area, and correct the paths, it still does not correct the site.

So I think it is best for me to rebuild it, rather than waste time correcting it, since I do not know how.

Should I destory the data base when I rebuild or can I just erase the files?

or both?

I would make a database dump/backup and would not destroy the database.

However: I am not an expert...

Hi Mike!

Did you check your .htaccess file, if it is writable for the webserver? If not, some paths cannot be corrected because s9y can't update it.

As it goes for re-installation: You must remove the serendipity_config_local.inc.php file and you pust remove the DB tables of Serendipity. (DROP them, not EMPTY them)
