Serendipity v3.0 template updated to css only - testers need

Post by carl_galloway »

Hi all,

Matthias (yellowled) and I have spent some time updating my competition entry template to a content first css only design instead of the traditional tables version. We anticipate that this will replace my existing template which is found in the 'carl_contest' folder. We urgently need a few people to help us test this so that Garvin can have the confidence to roll this into the nightlies for the upcoming release of version 1.1

Read the story here, where you can also download the beta version. If you have any bugfixes, please post them here.

Thanks, Carl and Matthias

Hi!

Just to tell it here: I think this is some awesome work and so much useful! I'm currently somewhat short on time, but will definitely look into this and commit it to the official s9y repository as soon as possible. Any feedback you can give before that would be much appreciated by all of us. :-)

Best regards,
Garvin

Great work, guys! Just been testing it on Windows in FF, IE, and Opera - looks mighty fine everywhere. Opera seems to have problems with the colors of not-visited links which appear "default blue", but I don't have time to look at it more closely right now. Anyway, that's about the only bug I can see :D Big thanks to you, I've always been wanting a pure CSS solution for S9Y!

Regards,

Actually, we did. Well, Carl did, I'm a Linux-only guy. Could you maybe post a screenshot and give us the exact details (IE version, browser window size etc.)? Thanks.

Hm, which Opera version? I don't see that in Opera 9/Linux. Is it in any colorset?

Wow, i like the caramel based style!

Even if it does not work with IE6 ;) I've posted a PM to Carl with my test-url to view what happens. There are no boxes on my right sidebar and the small "+" does not appear to open the boxes.

But the look is great!

How do you change the different styles?

In Serendipity 1.1 you have the option to change the style. If you don't have 1.1, you cannot use this feature(, right?).

Opera version 9. I don't know what you mean by colorset?
However, I just checked the source code and CSS and all, and I cannot quite understand why the link color is wrong. Everything in the sources seems to be fine, so you shouldn't bother too much since it's probably a problem with my config  I use Opera for testing purposes only, that's why I'm not too familiar with its properties and tweaks.

thanks everyone for having a go and making your comments. Its disappointing to see a few people have had problems, and it seems to me the major problem is going to come down to the way the colorsets are implemented, and particular plugins that might conflict with the design.

To answer a couple of the questions, yeah we tested this in IE and Opera, in fact we continued to test in these browsers from beginning to end, but this is why we've asked for help, it is a documented fact that IE does different things on different computers - it sucks, even IE7 beta isn't much better, so if anyone with an IE problem could post a screenshot and an explanation that would be really awesome. We will fix this thing.

Thanks, Carl

Carl, my example in screenshots.

1 One is FF and one is IE6. On both i miss the "+" grafics to open the boxes. And the correct one here is FF.

Firefox Screenshots (just the "+" missing for me).

Harald, thank you for the screenshots. I've just read your PM, and viewed that site in FF and IE on my PC, and in IE I get a very different picture from the one you posted. In your IE the left sidebar header are made into little square boxes, but in mine they look like the FF screenshot. Which plugin are you using to get the + sign, I need to test this plugin on my PC.

Carl, thank you for pointing me to the plugin. I forgot, i use a plugin to open those boxes. The plugin is called:

"Seitenleisten ein/ausklappbar machen
Verkleinert Seitenleisten-Elemente auf ihren Titel und ermöglicht das individuelle Ausklappen. Zusätzliche Konfiguration siehe Einträge -> Seitenleisten verwalten in der Administrationsoberfläche.
version: 1.11

Anyway, i deactiveted a lot of plugins and my display in IE is still broken. All sidebar plugins appear on the left side and the right side is empty ;) Opera shows them on both sides too. Only my IE6 don't show the right sidebar.

I tried other styles and it works with other styles.
