I've been searching for a way to get this done using the existing PlugIns, but no way was close enough to perfect.
What I would need:
- Groups/Users, that don't have any access to the admin GUI (just readers)
- Categories can be assigned to one or more of these groups, you would see these entries only if you are logged in.
Is anyone else needing something like this? Haven't built a PlugIn right now, but thinking of give me a try with this one...

Re: Wanted: User-Groups for vistors
Hi!
You can create users that have no admin privileges if you set the "Forbid creating entries" option in their user profiles. Using the "User Self-Registration" plugin you can also set this value by default for new registered users, so that they'd live no real permissions.
Categories can get read/write permission on a per-group basis, when you enable the "ACL" system in the serendipity configuration.
Sooo, basically, it should all work out of the box. The only thing that might need pushing are external plugins that reveal themselves in the admin interface and that should not be shown to users...for those, you would also need to check if "no_create" privilege is set. Most plugins I know should do this already, though.
