Answer

Post by kdev »

Garvin,

Spartacus and Manage Styles worked great under 0.9.1. It was only after uploading 1.0 that the problem arose.

I hope I sent the html for the correct page.

Thanks again very much for your time and effort. I appreciate it greatly.

Firewall changes

Post by kdev »

I'm not aware of any firewall changes. I will email them right now and should have an answer by tomorrow sometime.

Thanks

Hi!

Sadly you sent the HTML output of the configuration page. *g*

I would need the output of the page where you get that permission denied error. :)

Best regards,
Garvin

Response from Host

Post by kdev »

I'm sorry for the error!

I just received this from the Host Support:

We do have a firewall that is blocking outbound connections. In order to Open outbound connection to remote site you need:
1. To provide me your registration number and domain name
2. To specify the local script filename and location that is running on our server
3. To provide me the remote hostname or IP address and port number which needs to be opened
4. To tell me what is the exact and detailed purpose for this connection

How much of this can you help me with? Why would it work correctly under 0.9.1 and not 1.0? Perhaps because 0.9.1 was loaded through them and 1.0 was uploaded by me?

Hi!

I don'T really know how this could have worked in 0.9. It actually couldn't be -- but maybe previously they were allowing connectiosn to cvs.sourceforge.net - but since that URL chaged it didn't work anymore for new URLs.

For your questions:

2. The connections will come from serendipity_admin.php / bundled-libs/PEAR/HTTP_Request/Request.php

3. This depends on your mirror. netmirror.org for example, Port 80.

4. To download plugins remotely. :)

Best regards,
Garvin

Host response

Post by kdev »

Garvin,

Are the file names the same that request an outbound connection? I assumed that 1.0 had changed the names of these files. Since the Host had provided 0.9.1 they had set up the firewall to accommodate that file (s) that was requesting in 0.9.1

I will inform them with the information you have given me and see what happens.

Again, I want to thank you profusely for your gracious help. I could not have made it without you. I am hoping that we now have the problem close to being solved.

Hi!

Actually your provider would be the first host that could control outgoing connections based on the script name it is executed in! Usually you cannot "see" from which file a request is made, on a firewall basis. Thus, the script name shouldn't really matter; only the target and source host. The scriptname is surely only for informational purposes for your provider to see that you are not using a Hacked script or so.

Best regards and I hope we get this solved :))

Host action cured the problem

Post by kdev »

This host is very sophisticated and I am glad in many respects. They opened the path for your files to access netmirror.org and everything is working perfectly now.

Garvin, thanks again for all your time and efforts. I can't tell you how much I appreciate it.
