Hi,
I'm trying to setup serendipity on my account at nexenservices.com.
setup tells me :
To check your local webserver installation, serendipity needs to be able to write the file ".htaccess". This was not possible because of permission errors. Please adjust the permissions like this:
chmod go+rwx /home/user/www/cms/
and reload this page.
i've chmoded the whole directory but it doesn't work.
Which serendipity version are you installing, which operating system does the webserver run on, which version is your Webserver/PHP version and is it run as Apache Module or CGI Binary? Does a '.htaccess' file already exist in the directory?
Regards,
Garvin

Hi,
Im' using 0.7.1.
The webserver is running a linux flavour.
PHP is 4.3.9 and i dunno if apache runs as a module or cgi.
there's no htaccess in the directory.
i've just read on their website that they dont allow the use of htaccess. it's possible to protect a directory using the webinterface. i'm gonna try that.
i've tried serendipity on my laptop (which runs xp) and had no troubles. i began to love it
Usually a provider can'T deny writing a .htaccess file - they can only deny that the commands in that file work.
In 0.7.1 there was a bug with CGI versions of PHP trying to write to the wrong directory. You may want to try a recent snapshot?

Garvin

I've downloaded the latest snapshot and things have gone better though it's not perfect. I've managed to install serendipity but i still had some error messages regarding the .htaccess writing.
i can see my blog but when i try to go and change the global configuration, it tells me that i can't ... because it can't write the .htaccess file.
So you are running 0.8-alpha8 now? How do you activate the wysiwyg editor? Using the link "Personal Settings"? Are you logged in as an admin user (userlevel 255)?
And which browser are you using? The WYSIWYG editor only works with IE and Mozilla, and not on Firefox or Konqueror...
Regards,
Garvin.
