cannot install

The thing is just we HAVE NO DATABASE PREFIX input field. We only have a TABLE PREFIX field. This is much different. If you can't differ it, I suppose you're really better off with Wordpress and its less powerfull infrastructure.

No reason at all to go making insults, though...

There was no 'insult' intended and I told you I was trying to stay loyal. I have installed many sourceforge scripts with databases on this same server and NEVER had these problems. You install it and it works. None of them were ever worried about a "prefix".

Hi!

If you don't have NO DATABASE PREFIX input field then why have you previously referred to one?

I was referring to that field to see what you meant with it; I should have written in first place that we only have a table prefix field - but I didn'T want to mix things up.

So basically we only need the real database name, the factual actual name how the Database is called where S9y needs to be installed in. That database needs to exist previously.

The table prefix only says how the table names are prefixed: If it's called "serendipity_entries" or "s9y_entries" or "blog_entries" or even only "entries". This is to allow to install multiple applications inside the same Database - like phpBB would create tables called as 'phpbb_entries'.

The user data (username, password) need to match an existing Database account which has read/write privileges on the database mentioned previously.

I'm really sorry that it failed for you, and was (= am) trying to get the issue solved so that other users may benefit from it...

I'm sorry for overreacting a bit and sounding rude, this is usually not my style; but I had a bad weekend (my flat was robbed) so I was a bit "pissed"...

Thanks for sticking with me. (see below) This is what separates leaders from followers.

Not a problem at all and hate for you that you got ripped (BEEN there) - I'd be more than pissed!

Now ... I think my problem was that I was trying to set the table prefix as "serendipity" (not sure) but when I ran the install just now with "serendipity_01" instead it worked just as it always has = PERFECTLY! I feel this was the problem as I ran it over and over to begin with getting the errors with only "serendipity" and this was all I changed and it worked.

Database name: user_c_-_
Database table prefix: serendipity_01

Nonetheless, Serendipity is UP and running, WP is gone and history and now have to get bizzy with Serendipity which is what I wanted to begin with!

Quick related question:

Would this be to use it remotely on other domains such as 'blogger' does or what?

Kind of. Serendipity allows to be installed more than once onto your homepage, and so every new blog can have it's own tables (serendipity_02_, serendipity_03_, ...). But this is just like phpBB, Gallery or Wordpress can be installed more than once.

However Serendipity DOES allow you to spawn multiple blogs from one installation ("shared installation") so that you basically can provide Serendipity-Hosting like Serendipity. But this is still a bit more for experienced / administrative users...
