Toggle SideBar - Drop Downs

Post by Gus Greeper »

hi,

i've tried to install the 'Toggle Sidebar state (collapsed/uncollapsed)
Shrinks Sidebars to just their titles. Extra configuration in Entries -> Manage Sidebars in the Admin Suite'

but im getting these messages and the drop down menus are not appearing.

Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /services4/webpages/g/u/gusgreeper.com/public/plugins/serendipity_event_sidebarhider/serendipity_event_sidebarhider.php on line 300

this one appeared after i had clicked off what i wanted as drop downs.

Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /services4/webpages/g/u/gusgreeper.com/public/plugins/serendipity_event_sidebarhider/serendipity_event_sidebarhider.php on line 335

thank you and please advise :D

Hi!

Whcih version of the sidebarhider are you using? It seems to be an outdated one, because on line 300 of the current version, there is no foreach() loop...

Please try to fetch the latest version from spartacus.s9y.org!

All the best,
Garvin

Toggle SideBar - Drop Downs

Post by Gus Greeper »

hey gavin! thanks for getting back to me.

i have that extension installed- the 'spartacus' so should i just delete it and bring it back in? i got it the configure plug ins menu is it fine to do it that way?

i did just do an update from 0.9alpha3 to 1.0beta 3

i gotta wait till tomorrow my host company is moving me to a new server and is configuring serendipity today so i can't sign in and try anything.

thanks again! i hope it is something as simple as an outdated extension.

Hi!

The best thing would be to manually download the latest version from spartacus.s9y.org, or configure your spartacus plugin to use the "netmirror.org" file and XML mirror.

I'm sure this can get fixed easily. :)

hi,

ok so inside serendipity i have the plugin: Spartacus
[S]erendipity [P]lugin [A]ccess [R]epository [T]ool [A]nd [C]ustomization/nification [S]ystem - Allows you to download plugins from our online repository
version: 2.5

i went to spartacus.s9y.org and brought in the event downloadmanager and the sidebarhider but once i unzipped them into my serendipty c drive folder i don't know how to get them to actually work with serendipity like get them on the lists when i open 'configure plugins'.

also when i open 'spartacus' from MY event plugins the settings are as follows:
first box - netmirror.org
second box - SourceForge.net
there are three more boxes [owner of downloadedfiles, premissions downloaded files and; premissions downloaded directories] and they are empty.

pls advise and thanks for your help and patience.

Hi!

In the spartacus plugin config, set both dropdowns to "Netmirror.org".

Then, if you download ZIP files manually, you must extract them into your "serendipity/plugins" directory.

Like, if you downloaded a serendipity_event_Sidebarhider.zip, the files will go into serendipity/plugins/serendipity_event_sidebarhider/, so that you have a file called serendipity/plugins/serendipity_event_sidebarhider/serendipity_event_sidebarhider.php

i have run into a small problem with the template im using called blue. my main page looks awesome, but i can not figure out how to match the background + dotted border in my comments window. ready to pull all my hair out.

Hi!

Glad to hear that! :) Nice Blog content, BTW.

Anywho...regarding your CSS problem: What exactly do you want to look like what? Then I can give you the code. I just don't know yet what you want. *g*

Garvin

haha thanks...i don't NORMALLY expose that much, im mostly about my writing and ummmm spock, yeah spock. ;)

this is odd i never really had much trouble modifying the other template until realizing it was too old to take the drop downs.....
anyway with this one i want to remove the 'trackback' although my old template never used to show the time i don't 'mind' it showing but don't 'love' it either.
but the comments i'd like to look like the main page with the baby blue back and the lines like on the main page.
we just can't get it...although we did get the commenter color to the red woo hoo!! go us!

[my fiance and i work on it together]

thanks for any help you can offer!! :)
we are learing we have a dreamweaver MX book it is just a slower process than expected.

Posted by Gus Greeper in CONFESSIONS & STUFF, Other Sports at 01:18 | Comments (0) | Trackbacks (0)

ok im realizing because im in the west of canada and three hours AT LEAST behind everyone else that posts go up three + hours behind- i know i had this [below] on my old template don't ask me why i can't figure out how to do it on this one. man i feel like a dork sometimes.

Posted by Gus Greeper in CONFESSIONS & STUFF, Other Sports| Comments (0)

for example i just posted and it originally said 09:18 but really it is 1:18pm so it has posted it four hours behind? i went back in and changed it to 24 hour time and made it 01:18 but that just makes it look like i put it up after midnight which didn't i put it up at 1:18 PM on the 16th.

hopefully some of this make sense :D
and honestly i don't even know WHY the time showing bothers me it is my OCD for sure :) but these comments they have to match the front face man they HAVE TO :) [I love capitals im never yelling when i use them unless i am in fact yelling ;)]

fantastic now it looks like im stalking you! i hope im not annoying the living SHIT out of you...im one determined lady, i just have a bit of a temper and get easily frustrated.

i have realized with this template that if im not going to go with a title for each post the only way i can link back to a post later is through the time. SHIT. so ok, i will live with the time i just need to actually be the right time, even if it has to stay eastern time i'd like it at least post the right time.
but trackbacks...i gotta drop those...they don't show up anyway other blogs link back to my posts all the time?

i think im nervous to read your response to all this in the morning...but if the comments can look like the front of my page i'll be so happy i won't care about the 'trackbacks' showing for at least an hour after ;)

Ooookay, so let's take some baby steps to make you hape.

Route to happiness, part 1:

Your server time problem. This stems from the fact that your blogs runs on a server that is not in the same timezone than you are. If you are the server's admin or have a good relation to him, you could ask him if we wanted to adjust the server timezone to your zone. If not, you can use the Serendipity "Server Timezone Offset" configuration option, where you enter the amount of hours your server differs from your nice little home. :-)

Route to be even happier, part 2:

Your "trackback" link showing up in the entry footer. This thingie happens within the "entries.tpl" file. Since the "blue" template doesn'T have one, it uses the file from the "default" folder. Best thing is to copy this entries.tpl from default over to the blue directory to edit it.

Inside that file you will find this piece of code:

Code: Select all

                    {if $use_popups}
                        | <a href="{$entry.link_popup_trackbacks}" onclick="window.open(this.href, 'comments', 'width=480,height=480,scrollbars=yes'); return false;">{$entry.label_trackbacks} ({$entry.trackbacks})</a>
                    {else}
                        | <a href="{$entry.link}#trackbacks">{$entry.label_trackbacks} ({$entry.trackbacks})</a>
                    {/if}
Just remove that whole portion, and the " | Trackbacks(0)" will be vaporized. Gone in an instant. Nothing to burry, nothing to mourn. (2 Extra points for finding the source of this quote). :-)

The goal of your journey, part 3:

Your final problem was to make the comments fit the look of your page. First off, I would recommend you thinking about disabling the popup alltogether. I don't like them, so maybe you don't either. You can disable popups inside the Serendipity Configuration.

If you definitely want to have those popups, you do this. Edit your style.css file and insert this code at the end:

Code: Select all

#serendipity_comment_page {
  background-color: #e6eaee;
  border: 1px dashed #d0d0d0;
  margin: 10px;
  padding: 10px;
  width: auto;
}

#serendipity_comment_page li {
  list-style-type: none;
}
Having some drawbacks, part 4

I hate to tell you this at the end, but something's not right with your template. Because when I go to the final entry view (like http://www.gusgreeper.com/index.php?/ar ... aikus.html) I do not see your right sidebar anymore. Is this intentional? If not, you'd need to tell me which event plugins you have installed right now, and at best, zip up your currentt template files (the whole folder) and put it online for me somewhere to look at.

Best regards,
Garvin

thanks you are really great! do you like sock monkeys? cause i normally make people sock monkeys over going with a wish list unless of course they already have a monkey and i've been blogging friends with them a while. :)

i have been trying some of this and not having much luck, comments won't change for me, still grey back ground and no dotted line separation....im going to let adam [mentioned fiance, may as well call him by name :)] see if he has any luck with it after work and will let you know tomorrow.

if i did it this, it was by accident, although i wish the side bar would not show on static pages i wondered about that and wasn't sure if it was just the way the template was designed or a glitch. i would like it as it should be please. im glad you mentioned that.

i am using a different FTP program than i was before and i think that may be some of my problem. i was used to the other one and this may be an easier one if you know it but it isn't for me yet. if you have acess to smartftp2.0 let me know over email mine is on here and i'll let you in which would also help with journey part 4.

Hi!

Uuhm, actually I've never heard of a sock monkey. What's that? Is it edible? ;-)

Maybe the CSS change did not happen in the right file(s), which one exactly did you edit to insert your code? Because when I look at your current CSS output, I don't see the code I mentioned. So let's wait for Adam. :)

Hm, actually the reason why we have "static pages" is to make it easy for people to have the whole blog layout surround their static page. If they did not want that, I would suggest to just upload a static .html file to your directory, where you can freely insert anything? ;)

Anyways, I'm gonna drop you a mail now because of the FTP thing.

Regarding the Quote: Star Trek is right, but it's not a movie. And not a series. It's one of the first interactive games, "Star Trek: Borg". :-)

"A Borg is a borg is a borg. Seen one, seen 'em all. Got it?"

Best regards,
Garvin
