Installation Problems - Red / Green Colorblind!

Hello all,

People such as myself are red/green colorblind. The installation script seems to be reporting some problems, but I can't easily tell what is fine and what is broken using red and green - they both look the same!

It would be extremely helpful if something else was done to denote something not being quite right; Underline, perhaps, or italics, or a different color entirely. The genetically inferior would appreciate it. (o:

I know that this is a problem that affects only a small amount of users, but it would be an easy one to fix.

What a great suggestion, I'm sure Garvin will be able to do something fairly easily to make this stand out more. In the meantime, have you managed to install Serendipity or do you need some assistance with those permissions?

Yup, everything is working fine now. I used EyeDropper to identify what text was red and was able to resolve my issues. So everything is working well now and I have a new toy to play with. Hooray!

Hi!

Yes, indeed that's a good suggestion. I've added a "[?]" to orange output (possible errors) and a "[!]" to errors to indicate their nature. Hope that is well?

That is perfect. It will be extremely helpful. I didn't even know there was orange text, looks yellow to me... Ah well. As you can tell, Kindergarten was a rough year for me.

I'm really happy to find the developers here are responsive and willing to help out. I think that's great, and it ensures that people are going to use your product for a long, long time.

Since I have your attention (o: I am interested in developing plugins, but I have not been able to find documentation other than the plugin APIs. Is there a tutorial or walk-through anywhere that explains the basics? Looking through just the API is daunting. It would be helpful to have some direction, if available.

If not, I guess it's time to get into the trenches and see what damage I can inflict anyways.

Great you like it. I always enjoy suggestions like yours, because for people without the red/green problem everything looks fine to us

Sadly, we only have a very small group of people dedicated to documentation. I myself am pretty wrapped up in Coding Serendipity and doing support here, plus coordinating things. So I just can't get it up to write nice tutorials, this is not a skill I am good at.

The best idea is to just look at those Technical Documentation things on www.s9y.org like you did, and take an example plugin and try to understand the code. There are many very simple plugins available for Serendipity, so just pick one and have a look at it. It is quite simple, so you should quickly get the concept of it. To me, learning by doing has always been the best experience, this is how I got started with Serendipity.

Think about a plugin you want to make, try to find one that is basically similar to it, and push and poke about it. Or come back here to the forums to ask questions like "Which hook do I need to output XXX" or "which method do I need to use to access XXX"...

I'm always helping here, so I'm sure we'll get it figured out. Contribution is very important for Serendipity, so I try to do everything for possible new contributors.
