Is upgrading easy?

Post by carl »

I'm running 0.9.1 now and was wondering when the new version 1.0 comes out of beta if the upgrade is easy. (minimal risk, LOL)

Thanks...carl

upgrading is very easy: just copy the new files over the old ones on your server, go to the site and run the update.

you can use the beta version without any risk. almost all beta version are running as stable as the real ones. I´m with Serendipity since ~0.7 and never had any trouble!

and even if there was... Garvin will help you. To play it safe copy your files before the upgrade and save your database.

That is good to hear about upgrading.

One more question:

I understand plugins are used for lots of things but to change the font size, font color etc. do I edit the CSS of the template directly?

Thanks!...carl

Hi Carl

that's right, you can change all the styling elements of your web journal - fonts, colours, sizes, etc. in the style.css file for your chosen template.

I run the s9y files in the root. In looking at the upgrade zip file there are a lot of files. So, I just copy all these to my root and run upgrade? Does the upgrade place all the files in the correct folders or location?
Good Journeys!

Hi!

You must not put the ZIP file in your s9y directory; you must put the contents of the zip file there. So either unzip the file on your local computer and upload them all, or you unzip the file on your server if you have the means to do so (shell access, or if the server is your local machine)

Else, please read the FAQ on www.s9y.org :)

Garvin
