TrackBack Spam

Post by TKS »

Howdy all.

I recently had a huge increase of traffic to my site via digg and slashdot. Due to this fact, I've had a massive increase in trackback spam.

I'm getting somewhere around 200-300 trackback spam entries per day.

Now, this really sucks to have to go through it manually to sort out the good ones from the bad ones. I'm using .9.1 with all spam plugins installed...but I'm of the mindset that there is very little I can do for trackback spam.

So instead of 'doing something' about it...is there a way we can sort the listing so that it sorts out based on keywords that we can control via a list setting in our configuration? Perhaps a plugin would work for this where we can control a .txt file that has words to keyin on and they moderate in a separate queue than normal trackbacks might. Anything right now would help me sort through 200-300 trackbacks daily. It's to the point right now where I don't have time to blog...I've got trackbacks to delete...unless I want rape stories, buy cialis, and phentermine tracked back to my blog...then I'm all ok :(

Thanks for your input...let me know if I'm full of crap, crazy, or MR below.

EDIT:
Of course...after I wrote the above message...I found that I can view all and then invert selection to select all of them. However, that still doesn't allow me to sort out good trackbacks from bad ones. Any suggestions are still welcome.

Which plugin does this work with? I don't have a 'spamblock' plugin. I have 3 antispam plugins.
spam protector (RBL)
spam protector (SURBL)
spam protector
So, which one is the 'spamblock' one? Also, I get errors if I copy the file (http://blog.s9y.org/archives/122-Spambl ... ments.html) into the serendipity_event_spamblock.php file with all three of the above mentioned plugins installed. Are they not able to be installed at the same time with this latest version?

Do you use the serendipity_event_spamblock.php from the second post (http://blog.s9y.org/archives/123-Spambl ... rt-II.html) compatible with the first one? What I mean is...is this file version 1.4 for the 'spamblock' plugin? I'm thinking it is..because I get errors when I install this one as well. I can provide feedback when I try this again in a few hours (gotta go wash the car currently...be back in a few to post the errors). Thanks for you help on this....

Hi!

"Spam Protector" is the one. The plugin file is called "serendipity_event_spamblock", and its the only bundled anti-spam plugin; the other ones are from spartacus :)

Which errors do you get? You should only use the latest spamblock plugin file from the most recent posting, the other one was not compatible with 0.9.x.

HTH,
Garvin

Not sure I understand,

I don't have any other spamblock plugins to choose from other than those three on my plugins page.

I've never had anything else to choose from. So, do I just make a serendipity_event_spamblock.php file and drop the text in there and call it good?

Hi!

What you need to do is open the file plugins/serendipity_event_spamblock/serendipity_event_spamblock.php and there you paste the contents of this file:

http://svn.berlios.de/viewcvs/*checkout ... mblock.php

Then the plugin would be automatically updated and it should work. If not, please tell me the error message(s) you get!
