I've been working on a theme for CSS lovers. It's called Ladybug, and it's a red-to-pink theme with ladybugs all over it (appropriately).
Ladybug does not use tables for its sidebars; it uses only CSS positioning. This means the blog comes before the sidebars for browsers that don't support CSS, like search engines. Search engines assign the earliest content the greatest value, so Ladybug puts your blog where it belongs: in the most important order.
Ladybug also includes drop shadows on sidebar items and entries, a fixed background (in browsers that support it), red archive bars (that was fun!), and rounded corners for Mozilla FireFox users.
Ladybug will be available through SPARTACUS (using Manage Themes) within 24 hours. Let me know if you experience any trouble with it.

I've never tried, but I don't see any reason why it couldn't work. You could add a footer as a div outside the #mainpane, but the sidebars would overwrite it. And they're not floating, so clear=both wouldn't help. You'd have to set some margin-bottom on the #mainpane and each sidebar, then position the footer absolute at bottom:0.

mmm, tried that already, it does and doesn't work, and following some of the more established 3col css layout tutorials online I can make it work but the code becomes too complex with negative margins, clearing divs etc. Then when it finally works in one browser, another will obstinately refuse.
Ah well, just have to keep plugging away,
Thanks,
Carl

ladybug is awesome!!!!
i like the contrast, and the bugs that give it life. shame that i always go for boring plain-vanilla stuff.
i think i will use it for my kids....
i wish there was one like that with dancers / dance shoes, or i wasn't so design-clumsy...
thx- it made me smile!!!!!
