Want to put blog in table on home page

I am trying to display the blog inside a nested table cell on my homepage.

I have cut and pasted the index.php code to the cell and renamed the homepage as a .php file, but noting displays in desired cell.

I tested with a phpinfo() call in that cell and that worked (for displaying phpinfo).

(I should mention, in case benefit of the doubt has prevented it from being blatantly obvious from the get-go, that I have absolutely, positively no idea what I'm doing.)

Actually it would be easier for you to just edit/modify the index.tpl file of your template!
