Horizontal Nav bar plugin

At the moment I am using the serendipity_event_linklist database and a config.inc.php to run an external php script to generate the nav bar, while this is okay for me I would like to build a plugin but have no idea how to get the output into the template.

You may want to look at the serendipity_event_headnugget plugin, which does something similar. Or use the serendipity_event_pagenugget plugin, which also does something like that, and then you can add your custom magic.
