Thought this was going to be so easy!
But on the very first "Serendipity Installation" screen, though I'm using the very same username and pass for FTP access, I receive:
Could not connect to database; check your settings.
The mySQL error was: Access denied for user: 'XXXX@www.XXXXX.com' (Using password: YES).
(Xs are used in this example to hide my username and domain.)
Suggestions gratefully accepted.

The error message says that the username and password you specified for the Database are NOT right.
Please contact your server admin and ask for the right credentials to get access to the database. Also check that you might need to use "127.0.0.1" or "localhost" as serverhost, depending on the setup of your database. Your kind sysadmin will tell you this as well.
