MeToo
Can't get it to download
I have a Windows PC using IE. When I download your plugin, it has a BZ2 extension. Looking around, I found a utility to uncompress this file, however when I used it it the uncompressed file had some weird characters in it. Is it possible for you to create a .zip file for us non-linux users?
MeToo: zip-file is up. thanks for the hint!
Smartphoner: Ahh, only the download doesn't work? Have you a popup-blocker activated? This has to be deactivated! Any downloadmanagers or -accelerators like GetRight or similar should also be deactivated.
Try the zip-file, maybe safary doesn't know tar.bz2... well, try all that stuff.

Very Good...
Just a note to say thanks for the plugin! However I did notice a few odd things. If you check out my site they are noticeable. Like that some things in the description are bolded to the left of the : and some are not. Also it doesn't appear that you can use BBCode in the descriptions. I would like to have the ability to embed links, font changes, etc.. Also can you explain why the filename is so close to the icon. Perhaps a CSS file needs to be tweaked? Or is it hard coded? Excellent plugin though! I really like the ability to upload files as well. I did notice however that the stored file has a different name. Looks like a temporary file name. My first file was named 4sBbqAaLkq1djo8cNnsbMlr1KPpv5Oo Was this by design? It only means that to download files you MUST use your download manager. Keep up the good work!

Well, I've coded this downloadmanager-plugin during about 10 or 12 hours, allocated to two days. I think it is absolutly normal, that this can't be really perfect. However I did notice a few odd things. If you check out my site they are noticeable. Like that some things in the description are bolded to the left of the : and some are not.
Your first thing seems to be the descriptions of a file, when watching the details of a file. You seems to mean that all stuff, like the filesize, the filedate and the number of downloads are directly on the right side of the :, but the filedescription begins in a new line after ther :, have I understand you correctly?
The reason for this is, that I thought it would be better to let the description begin in a new line, because the description normaly is a very long text, which looks better, when starting in a new line, than dirextly beside a :.
But, well, if you all think, that I should place the description-text also directly behind the :, then I'll change this.
This is a feature, which I've already on my personel ToDo list. I've not implemented this for the first release, because I wanted to release it as soon as possible. Also it doesn't appear that you can use BBCode in the descriptions. I would like to have the ability to embed links, font changes, etc..
I'll add BBCodes for the description soon.
I have everything in this file-list table in an own column and the table has cellpadding=0 and cellspacing=0, so it's clear, why the filename appears so closed to the icon. Also can you explain why the filename is so close to the icon. Perhaps a CSS file needs to be tweaked? Or is it hard coded?
I'm not sure, how I should change this. Because I also have to think about blogs with two sidebars, where the place between the sidebars is really very small and if the owner of this blog then uploads files with long filenames, it will completly break the whole filelist.
Every saved milimeter is a good thing here.
But well, I see in your blog, that this is really extrem in your plugin, because of the font you've used.
Perhaps it would be better to broaden the column with the file-icon in it, so that there is more space to the filename.
these crypted filenames are needed, because I ddidn't want to create a big directory-structure in the download-directory like the categories looks like. This would bloat the code and would produce heavy problems when SAFE_MODE is activated.Excellent plugin though! I really like the ability to upload files as well. I did notice however that the stored file has a different name. Looks like a temporary file name. My first file was named 4sBbqAaLkq1djo8cNnsbMlr1KPpv5Oo Was this by design? It only means that to download files you MUST use your download manager.
(On most servers with SAFE_MODE activated, the webserver would not be allowed anymore to save files in a directory which was created by the webserver itself, because the created directories will get another owner and group than the webserver has)
But you must also be able to upload two or more files, with the same name, so the filenames under which these uploaded files would be saved has to be randomly generated names, to prevent the overwriting of some files.
I'll do my very best...Keep up the good work!

hmmm....
refering to the fact that the filename appears so closed to the fileicon...
Maybe it would be better, to make it configurable if the filedate should appear in the list or not. I think the filedate isn't that important...
On blogs which has two sidebars and very less space for the filelist, this would be better then.
your mind?
[edit]
This is implemented now!
But not in the 0.1! I will release a new version soon, when fixed some other stuff too.

Oh OK...
It's pretty good for being the first release, in fact it's awesome. As I mentioned these are minor wishes, just polishing. Let me try to clarify one issue.
I like the idea of not showing the filedate, it's not as useful as filesize. Make sure you leave that. I have two sidebars and I have plenty of room, but then again I'm not using large file names either. Perhaps you can make it configurable about exactly what fields you want to show, including the file icon, description, name, etc... This would give a user more flexability where space is a premium.
If I can add more to your "ToDo" list then here are some more for consideration.
Not quite. It seems like two of the listings are different from the rest. If you look at the example shown from my blog you can see the two that I refer to. Subcategories: and Downloads in this categories: are not bolded like the rest. Just the label, not the information. Minor, but it stands out. I agree the description should start a new line, so don't change that.Your first thing seems to be the descriptions of a file, when watching the details of a file. - Add the ability to have some categories hidden from general public vs registered users
Ability to custom define column labels
Make icon transparent. If you look at my category listing the icon has a white background, but my blog has a colored background so it stands out
Category listing shouldn't be bolded On my blog "Software" is bolded but the "3" is not.

Yeah, I thought that I should highlight only the really important intormation. And I thought, that subcategories and number of downloads in this one selected categorie are not as important as the other stuff. And I also thought, that if this is all bold, this only would confuse someone...
But well, now I think you are right... I should make them all bold.
This is also a good idea too and I'll implement this too, thanks.I like the idea of not showing the filedate, it's not as useful as filesize. Make sure you leave that. good point, will think about this.If I can add more to your "ToDo" list then here are some more for consideration.

If you mean the fildnames (Filename, filedate, etc...) then this would be very hard to realize and I also don't see the sense in that...?- Ability to custom define column labels
Yeah, in any case I wanted to add more mime-types and to create uniform icons. At the moment the icons are collected from other software and applications, so they are not very uniform. Then I'll make them also transparent.- Make icon transparent. If you look at my category listing the icon has a white background, but my blog has a colored background so it stands out
This is correct. I'll change that.- Category listing shouldn't be bolded On my blog "Software" is bolded but the "3" is not.

Excellent...
No, what I mean is that you have two column labels #dls and dls which I am to understand means Number of downloads and Downloads, respectively. I would think the first would be No of Files and the second No Times Downloaded. So the ability to create my own labels would help. Plus what about different lanquages? A language file would be useful. Also shouldn't the permlink be something like the others:If you mean the fildnames (Filename, filedate, etc...) then this would be very hard to realize and I also don't see the sense in that...?

Yeah, this is already on my todo list and will be implemented in 0.2Plus what about different lanquages? A language file would be useful.
Well, I've taken this idea from the guestbook-plugin. I thought, this would be the correct way to do this? Also shouldn't the permlink be something like the others:

/index.php/serendipity[subpage]link
Give me an example of a plugin which uses a permlink like the one you want, then I'll think about to change this.

Okay... here is a little status update of what I've done today:
- appearing of filedate configurable
- modified the appearance of file-details (the bold thingy)
- added much better and much more fileicons
- added much more mimetypes
- modified the function for mimetype-detection
- added the configuration of the other fields from the filelist
- added german language file
- added bbCodes
Here's what I still have to do:
- Fix the sql-statements for postgresql (most statements doesn't work)
- Get rid of this fu***** popup window when downloading a file
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
@Wizard + @Xanthouos:
I've given up to change this thing with the permlink. I've tried this several times now, copied all needed stuff from the contact-form-plugin and modified it, but it doesn't work.
I think this is really not very important to change this permlink.
It works with the method the guestbook-plugin uses and this should be enough.
