Join TikiWiki and S9Y

Post by CharlyP »

Hi Forum,
we've already a running TikiWiki-Installation.
For we learned S9Y is a great Blog-Software we'd like to join the advantages of both tools.

Does anybody has some hints (in excess of the short online-documentation)?

Tx in advance

I've never used TikiWiki, but maybe I can help on the s9y end. What exactly are you trying to do?

S9y has a flexible plugin API, and since TikiWiki is AFAIK PHP-based, it should be doable to combine both tools...

Hi Garvin,

You're right, TW is PHP-based and like S9Y also MySQL-based. TW has also a blog-tool implemented - but there are significant differences between S9Y an TW-Blog - TW-Blog is nice, if you don't know any other software

What i'm trying to do:
On my existing TW-Installation i'd like to implement a blog software with rich capability of adding comments, posting things (e.g. announcements for rehearsals, daily thoughts about theater-things, and so on).
The rest of the functionality in TW (e.g. automated cross-linking, easy handling of an media-database, far reaching user-administration, ...) ist quite good for my tasks. Therefor i'd like to wrap S9Y with TW.

I read the technical docs about the embed Configuration Directive. But hence i'm a good mainframe- and not a brilliant PHP-Programmer i'm stuck in the beginning...

I don't know if the plugin-API could solve my probs, as well as i understood it is liable for implementing other source into S9Y (right?). My idea is right the opposite of this ..

Do you have any idea..

Thanx and greetings towards Remagen

Hi!

Okay, what you're trying to do is very advanced. The "embed" option is only for the frontend - the backend is not built to be embedded in any application.

You will need to use the PHP-core level s9y functions and plug them into your framework.

But maybe we can also improve our media database and user-admin - what do you dislike about that? :)

Sadly I don't know TW at all, so I don't know which API functions (if any) it has to embed other applications...

Best regard from Cologne as well (that's where I moved to a year ago :),

Hi Garvin,
sorry for the late answer - but production problems forced me to do something else :-)

I think we misunderstood - my goal is to embedd etc. only the frontend to TW - editing and categorizing blogitems should be in S9Y (why shut away something very good?). Therefor the prob should maybe not so huge..

That's difficould to describe, TW is just a Tiki - you name a page and crosslinks will be automaticly created (maybe you could take a look at http://de.tikiwiki.org/tiki-index.php?page=Funktionen to find out what else TW offers - we're building the german documentation for the tw-project)...

Best regards from Cologne to Colone :-)
(a good decision to move - just for the Kölsch)

Okay, then I really misunderstood you. I'm excited about what you'll be going to achieve. Post here for questions of course :)

Intermingling a blog and a wiki might get a bit hard, especially cross-links are hard to do, so I'm curious how you might solve this.

Best regards from a hot cologne,
Garvin

P.S.: Sadly I don't dring beer :)
