Error While Unzipping serendipity-0.8.4.tar

I tried unzipping the serendipity-0.8.4.tar using WinZip on my PC and I get the following error: "Error reading header after processing 0 entries". I am off to a bad start but I thought to install it I needed to first uncompress it (unzip?) in on my PC and then FTP the files to the Linux server. Any thoughts on why I can't even unzip the .tar?

Please try a different unocmpressing program like 7-Zip or WinAce. WinZip has problems with tar/gz files.

Or download the ".zip" version of serendipity and not the .tar.gz version.
