BTW: Have you considered changing this for both males and females?

It's my understanding that also in English, it is perfectly correct to just use he. With a German background the they form sounds completely wrong and not something I would introduce.

By any chance, does activating the user account work now?

She received 2 rather than one email that she was approved - and to click to activate.

I'm not sure why - is it possible that something in the code caused that?

I can go to the login - and it works - though it takes her to Admin rather than Weblog.

I could Comment - but then it leaves her on the Comment page rather than returning her to the Weblog.

The approval for her Comment went to my email@sun2save.com email instead of where it should - the admin@imperfectchristians.net email.

When I clicked to approve it - I was sent to the Weblog page, where it showed her Comment.

One by one, please :) Captchas don't work anymore, they will not help against spam. We have a few threads about alternative approaches in the forum, but feel free to make a new one (but the answer is usually: Activate akismet in the splamblock plugin or install the spamblock_bayes plugin to filter comments by their content, and optionally install the spamblock_bee plugin for its honeypot functionality).

For the user registration: I'm not sure about the various flows, like whether you are supposed to be sent to the weblog or the comment etc. But did I understand correctly that you were able to approve the user registration, and then the user could activate his account, so we have some success here?

For where the emails go: The plugin will send an email to approve the new user account to all admins of the blog, I think it grabs the email configured under personal settings. As you said "my email", that's likely what indeed happened.

For the user, she is of course not supposed to get the same mail twice, but there are two emails that look quite similar, the email to activate the account after approving tripped me up as well. Might that be what happened for you as well?

OK. I'll have to educate myself some and try this. Thanks!

Yes! Some success for sure.

Oddly, it only sent it to my personal email and not to the admin@imperfectchristians.net email

I wish but no, it was two identical emails:
An author account has just been created for MichaelaC (mdc@sun2save.com) on the bloghttps://imperfectchristians.net/serendipity_admin.php. To activate this account, click here:

From the code I think it's not a clear bug, it tries to send it once to the user. Maybe let's revisit this if it happens more often.

For the flow, if something feels broken there (like not going to the comment when it's supposed to), could you report this with a detailed description in a separate thread? Just to make it better visible.

Because here, we made the notifications work again, so I'll just be happy for a bit ;)

BTW: Since Serendipity is being hosted by Bluehost I asked about Akismet Alternatives. The Brave Browser Search engine AI returned:
"If you are looking for a Bluehost alternative specifically for spam protection similar to Akismet, some popular options include Antispam Bee, WP SpamShield, and Stop Spammers. These plugins offer features such as spam logging, automatic spam cleaning, and comment blacklists, making them effective free alternatives to Akismet.
For a more comprehensive approach, OOPSpam provides advanced algorithms and detailed reports, which can be particularly useful for websites with higher traffic or more complex spam issues." Would any of those work with Serendipity?

No, though bee has a namesake in the s9y universe. Have a look at viewtopic.php?t=21123.

Note that you can use akismet regardless of the hoster, see https://docs.s9y.org/docs/users/using/s ... et-api-key. Though I haven't personally tested this in years.
