Emailing Large Lists Failing when it formerly did not

Post by adedecker »

I use S9Y for a few users that enter entries on multiple categories and use the Email plugin to send messages to a list of users based on that category. This was working well for a few years, up until about a month ago. On categories with larger distribution lists (which are just comma separated email addresses - I haven't had the means to create a real mailing list), only the first few people get receive the emails. Instead of returning the list of people emailed, Serendipity is returning the error in the attached image.

To me this seems like a webserver timeout before this is processed, which would not surprise me given the power (low) and CPU utilization (high) of the server hosting s9y. Does anyone have any suggestions regarding this?

Hi!

Seems that your webserver or mailserver simply times out on sending the mails because it takes to long, like you suspect. You need to setup a proper mailinglist, that's the only sane thing to do

I think mailchimp can do something like this... and its free for as long as you have < 2000 email addresses. I have never done it, but I think it can pick up the rss feed for a specific category, then send that to a targeted distribution list.
