I started tinkering with a serendipity-template, but soon discovered that this really wasn't a good option. Apart from that, i didn't do anything to advance the redesign.

I did, but it's a completely different concept and not even close to finished yet.

Did you find anything that can handle all components? When I updated everything a few years ago, I had to do a phpBB template (this forum), the home page template, powered by some extinct wiki script, the blog template (s9y - easy), and the plugin/template page.. which I cannot remember how that one is generated. Somewhere I have all the files for each of these if anyone really needs/wants them. And I think I have the photoshop file for the header/banner which includes the logo.

I am not even close to thinking about actual systems to power it. Still thinking about concepts, organization and design.
