I have a blog on Wordpress which I can use fine and for the last 3 months I have tried using serendipity to start a new blog as it was the default option with my website designing program.
Today was one of my quickest posting of a blog in that it only took 2.5hrs. I keep reading that Serendipity is supposed to be easy for beginners and better than Wordpress but it just takes me forever to format so I think that I must have lots of bugs or things enabled/disabled that shouldn't be.
In Wordpress I can format the article in Word paste it into the new entry page and it will look exactly how I wanted it to. I can also paste just the text so all formatting is removed such such as if I am cutting and pasting a quote from another document. With Serendipity it appears fine as I edit it then when I save and preview different text is justified/centered/bold/italics/arial/verdana and I have to manually go through the HTML source page to change everything. Also adding images they are never the size I change them to in the media library I have to delete them and save them in the size I want into photoshop before re uploading again.
The problems are worse if I am using Chrome to access Serendipity but is still bad if I use internet explorer. I want to be able to add share buttons on the end of my posts but if I use that plugin it really messes up my formatting.
I am learning to put up with these issues although if anyone can suggest how to solve them it would save me a few hours but my other issue is that if I share the post address directly on Twitter Google+ etc, instead of the post title it just gives my blog description. Is there a way for it to use the blog post title. It is the same if someone uses the share button on the blog, I want them to share the individual post not the whole blog description.
Can anyone help?
Formatting and Sharing problems
Re: Formatting and Sharing problems
Sure!
We need a URL to see what you are trying to do, the Serendipity Version, the WYSIWYG-Editor you are using (if), the exact name and Version of your Template and we do need to see, at least, that you did some testing with plain or low formatted text, that you did read some Serendipity Docu, know its benefits with our plugin and template system, and so on ... at least a little bit.
There surely is bad output if you just fill MS-Words (source) code directly into the S9y entry form and submit. But you have to blame MS for this, not us! Serendipity is different. It is considering that you know what you do. Having learned this, it is easy and very promising to work with this fine program.
The output of text or preformatted text will depend on some of the markup event plugins, like nl2br for sure, the WYSIWYG-Editor and your Templates CSS.
So please try again and there will be Experts around, answering all you differing questions.
