managing users, How to do that?

Post by samarlen »

Hello everybody,

I begin to work with Serendipity.

I see that it's possible for the visitor to subscribe on my blog.

Actually I need to have this option because I want to create some categories with a limited access.

I want that the only subscribed persons can see the limited access categories.

What I really don't want to get is that my subscribed persons were able to administrate anything on my blog. They are supposed to change the only personal information. Password, addresses and so on.

What I do see is that everybody who's subscribed on the blog is able to add tickets, categories. It's not what I want.

Is there anyone who can help me?

I'd like to know how

You need the extended entry properties plugin for that.

You can assign self-registered users to a specific user group. You can (and should) also adjust the permissions for that group, i.e. their capabilities in the backend. However, the adduser plugin as well as the default user group should come with sensible default values, so you just might need to tweak those permission a little.

Thank you for the reply.

Could you say where can I get "the extended entry properties plugin" and how can I install and use it.

I use rvsitebuilder. Do you think if it better to change it to normal Serendipity ?

Best regards Sam

Usually, you'd download plugins from http://spartacus.s9y.org and install them manually or install them using the Spartacus plugin shipped with the s9y core. However, I have no I idea if and how that works with rvsitebuilder.

It is most definitely a good idea to switch to a self-hosted s9y, let alone because we can not offer any support for s9y blogs built using rvsitebuilder. We know it's rather popular, but unfortunately, their "version" of s9y contains some patches we're not aware of since they're not publically documented.
