self registration plugin problem

Post by rj »

Getting lots of spam attacks to it that show up in email...
Can we put a capcha in the self reg screen before the email is sent or something?

But beyond that, I can't seem to get the plugin to work properly.

I create a new name, password and email, hit GO, it comes in email, (all different than my login info). I click the link in the email, takes me back, and I log in and it says "You appear to have entered an invalid username or password" As admin I check Manage Users shows the new name and info.
If as admin I change the password, and then save, it says I must pick a group. I pick group and save, it moves along, I go to the other computer, log in as the new user and it works.

I was directed the other day to change permissions on the template_c directory to PUBLIC WRITE. Should I include all folders and or all files also? The chmod number doesnt change doing that though. This from FTP.

Thanx

Maybe someone could try to register and see what happens?

This got complicated and semantically convoluted on my part :)
I have shelved the issue in favor of just doing the few registrations a day by hand.
I left the plugin active but changed the link to an htm file explaining how they should proceed.
So far this has turned out to be a good idea.
The spam has stopped filling my inboxes.
I know the people emailing me are not bots.
And I get to know them a some.
Thanx

Hi!

Yeah, another idea would be to use the contact form plugin, that one can be captcha-ised. If you do it manually then, that might also save you some trouble. But resolving to email should also get rid of most spammers...
