New user registration

Post by Unplug »

I'm experiencing a problem that may seem minor or even elementary to most here but to me it has become more than a minor inconvenience and I've been looking here for the past 2 - 3 hours but have failed to find the answer I'm seeking. Where or how does someone Register for an account?

I see in the Admin panel where I can add a user manually but is there a provision for allowing a new lurker to self-register (and not necessarily as an Author) for an individual or personal account? I have looked in both the Backend and Frontend with no luck in finding a button, menu or page for this purpose after I've signed out from my own account - posing as a new user that is. Is there a plug-in specifically for this purpose? Or am I mis-understanding how this process works?

I'm relatively new to this blogging software and experience and I do like it a lot but I am a newbie to be sure. I've only had the blog site up for only a few days now and I have hopes to improve and expand it as I increase my knowledge base on the subject. Naturally any help would be appreciated as I have members of my local VFW Post wanting to sign up and and start posting items.

Hi!

Letting people register themselve is solved in Serendipity through a plugin, because we don't see this as a core functionality of a blog (more like a forum). Anyways, the Plugin is called "User Self-Registration" (serendipity_plugin_adduser) and can be downloaded through spartacus or http://spartacus.s9y.org. Once installed, users can find a form in your blog's sidebar where they can register. You as an admin can specify which privileges such users will get, and if you receive a confirmation mail.

Hi!

So in your plugin configuration interface of the serendipity backend you see the User Self-Registraion plugin being shown? Did you move it to the left or right blog sidebar, and does your template have a left/right sidebar where you put it into?

What's your blog's URL?

Regards,
Garvin

Hi

I managed to get it right thanks to you, you are a great help. The only problem now is that the automated email which is sent to new users doesn't give an option to click on the link which allows them to finish the registation.

Hi!

Sadly you use RVS site builder. They circumvent the serendipity login somehow so the plugin seem useless.

You should manually install Serendipity on your site. It's much more convenient, you can get full support here, and you don't need to hassle yourself with modifications that screw with Serendipity in a way we don't even understand.
