I think I found the problem. I never did change my template ccs file to a personal name, but kept it at style.css.
So I bet there is a admin style.css that goes in the root too?
And if so, I bet I copied the style.css file that was suppose to go in /templates into the root, overriding th admin style.css file?. IF you are still with me... :) I looked in my backup serendipity 151 folder and did not see any css files...
I think I need a serendipity admin css file, I think... :)
That may not be exactly it, but something like that occured...

It seems your template has an admin stylesheet, which is a copy of the old default. If you rename or delete the folder /templates/YOURTEMPLATE/admin then serendipity will instead load the newer admin design from bulletproof.
