"session.cookie_domain" in php.ini was the magic parameter that I fucked up by setting it to localhost thinking that would work alright as this is just a local test setup.

I disabled the "Enable referrer tracking" option that I somehow managed to overlook. So now everything except actually making new entries works in Opera. Still won't stay logged in using IE though....
