Thanks. It could be. My site is hosted by GoDaddy, so it probably is firewalled. So, it sounds like you're telling me that there is not a simple fix I can do from serendipity, it has to be done server-side? Basically, I just want the Amazon plugin to go away so my blog can get back to ...

I'm having the same problem (I think, it sounds very similar) with the Amazon plug in. I can't do anything from the plugin config menu to fix it, and I see this message when I look at the source code:
