Now here's an odd thing.

I've downloaded loads of plug-ins for my blog and never had a problem.

But yesterday I started getting the same failure message that jkimball has reported.

I have emailed my host's support desk but they say that nothing has been changed at their end.

Weird.

Trackback spam

I've been getting a lot of trackback spam lately. S9Y does mark some of it as 'awaiting moderation' but a lot more is allowed.

Is there some way to require all trackbacks to be moderated as the default action?

I had the same problem and posted about it in another thread. The problem seems to be with ping-o-matic. If you unckeck the box by their name the plugin works fine.

It might be linked to the multiple posting problem that I had. In that case, the solution was to uncheck the box that tells Serendipity to ping ping-o-matic.

Hey Garvin, I think I've found the problem.

It appears from posts in various forums that Pinomatic are having major server problems right now and have been down for several days.

With that in mind, I reinstalled Announce Entries and checked everything except for Pingomatic. This time the post went ...

Phew! Loads of questions - I'll do my best to answer them! :)

I've removed everything you asked me to and then put them back one at a time - on their own - to see what happened. The problem only recurred when Announce Entries was put back.

I had the boxes for Ping.o.matic, blo.gs, blogrolling ...

Hi Garvin,

Okay, I've tracked it down.

The problem is being caused by 'Announce Entries'.

To answer your question, I'm not running special proxies or filter software that I know about!

You are very welcome to go into my Admin panel and play around for yourself. I'll PM you the login details ...

More problems with duplicate posts

I'm still having problems with multiple duplicate posts whenever I try to post via the Administration Suite.

Previously I thought it was happening because I'd backdated entries, but now find it happens on current dated ones too.

After clicking on save, the page seems to hang for severlal minutes ...

Problem solved!

A few emails back and forth with H4P support got it sorted out. I must say that H4P's support is very good!

If anyone else has the same problem as me in setting up cron jobs on H4P, here is the syntax that works great:

00 * * * * /usr/bin/wgetvuser -O - www.yourdomain.com/blog ...

After some Googling for H4P and Cronjobs I found something that suggested that I needed to write the cron like this:

/usr/bin/lynx -dump http://www.mydomain.com/blog/index.php?/plugin/secretword

Unfortunately when that cron ran the email notification told me:

/bin/sh: /usr/bin/lynx: Permission ...

Cron help needed!

I'm trying to set up POPfetcher to allow me to post from an autoresponder and I've hit a brick wall!

The autoresponder is sending fine.

When I type the following into my browser's address bar, the email is picked up and posted perfectly:

Hi Garvin,

I'm thinking that it may have been caused by some kind of problem at my server.

The test post that I've just made this morning has been fine and the whole Admin page is now loading much faster than it was yesterday.

Hopefully the problem has gone away on its own!

I'm using IE6.

I should add that when I made the posts that resulted in multiple entries, the Admin page seemed to hang for about five minutes, showing just a blank page, before eventually loading as it should have done.

I'm going to have another go now to see if it is still doing it.
