I got it working by getting the author name in sync with what I was expecting. I messed it up during the installation. So, now everything works, and I do still do not have the serendipity_config_local.php.
Did that magically go away between beta1 and beta2?

Missing serendipity_config_local.php in 1.0 beta 2 zip file
I downloaded the 1.0 beta 2 to do a fresh install for a new blog everything went fine. I can view my now blog which has no entries. But, when I try to open the administration suite it won't let me log in.

So everything was working just fine. About 3 days ago, Technorati stopped updating my website when I post an entry. I sent them an email to see if they could see anything from their end, but I probably changed something on my end and don't know what it was now.
