After all, Serendipity is strifed for good PHP usage, and I really worship that fact. Serendipity IS made easy as much as possible for the average user.

But my personal goal is to allow all geeks and PHP/Smarty pro's to get Serendipity to do what they want. This is were we overcome Wordpress ...

Newsletter feature?

Hello

I did a quick search but didn't find anything

Is there a newsletter subscribe feature for s9y?

I'm aware that rss feeds could do something similar, but as mentioned on other threads, many ordinary users don't know how to use these

I was thinking that a plugin(?) for a newsletter would be ...

From what I understand of this request is that currently, if you use linear commenting, it is not possible to quote any previous replies. This makes the commenting system rather limited.

Of course, you could use threaded mode, which indicates what comment is being replied to.

But a "third option ...

Entry Body and Extended Body query

Hello

Is there a plugin or a feature which allows the text of the entry body to be automatically moved into the extended body when it exceeds a certain word count?
So you could set a number of words in the entry body, and if it is exceeded, the text is moved into the extended body.

I understand ...

Group permissions - restricting the advanced options

Hello

I'm setting up a group blog.
For a particular user group that can create entries, can it be set that none of the advanced options are available to them? So for instance, they can't set a sticky post, etc?
Or maybe I've missed some obvious permission setting

thanks

we do use Serendipity ourselves, the blog software on blog.s9y.org is linked quite prominently on the startpage and within the navigation? But I agree that maybe it can be organized differently.

Someone even suggested to make the s9y blog the startpage, and from there you must go to the wiki ...

Hello Garvin

If it helps I'll give it some thought in terms of navigation/design etc. Though I'm no expert, but do spend a fair bit of time surfing and web design (from a users's perspective) is an interest of mine.

A quick thought: while I understand the wiki serves it's purpose for organising ...

Hello

I've been thinking about s9y's popularity recently, esp. as I'm new to it.

I discovered it on http://www.opensourcecms.com where it has a quite good ranking in comparison to other blogs

Though the funny thing is, when I first had a quick look at s9y a few months ago, I thought it was a ...

Thanks - makes sense to me

By the way, the support here is really superb

Like a maniac I've been trying out different blog s/w and posting a few questions on their respective forums.
S9Y so far is way ahead when it comes to support - and it's very nice to get it from the developers directly :D

dumb question about upgrading

Hello

I've read the faq upgrading entry, but still a little unsure - so just want to check:

When upgrading, I go to http://www.s9y.org/12.html
and download the latest version (or cvs if I choose to).

And then ftp this to my webserver, setting it to overwrite existing files.

And after that, run ...

Thanks for the quick reply

I think can acheive it via categories and setting read/write permissions - though I need test things out further

simple multi-blog setup?

I'm still very much a s9y newbie, so your help would be appreciated

I'm trying to work out if this site setup is possible:

Blog 1:
Only a group of editors can post.
Registered users can comment

Blog 2:
Any registered user can post and comment (a group blog). But they can only edit their own ...
